The publication of the Jerusalem Review is more important than ever because The Jerusalem Review is an independent journal in the lingua franca of the contemporary world, that is English, which publishes translations of Hebrew texts, ancient and modern, as well as works of Jewish writers from all over the Diaspora, essays on Judaism, Israel, and the Middle East, and also provides a forum for non-Jewish writers and intellectuals who are interested in dialogue with Israel and the Jewish culture.
It is obvious that the regular publication and wide distribution of such a leading Israeli-Jewish journal in English is important more than ever since the conflicts, and the options for dialogue and understanding between civilizations have now, in addition to their intrinsic importance, an enormous and universally admitted impact on the political scene. The quality and prestige of the Jerusalem Review as a non-official most important representative of the Jewish culture (the Israeli arts and literature included) will enable it to fulfill its role as a widely acclaimed cultural envoy. Also the very name of the Jerusalem Review, and the fact that it is not affiliated with any particular political, academic or commercial institution, symbolize its general Jewish and Israeli mission.
