Gmar Hatima Tova

Eid Mubarak

Isn't it amazing that we will be fasting on the same day? Yom Kippur and Eid al Adhacha.

So does this mean there will be no rockets?

Just to remind you:

If you love Panic Ensemble you won't want to miss this show on October 22. You can see the event here. Tickets here

i'm going to appear in yiddish.

What a week we have before us - erev yom kippur is felt from tuesday morning - most people don't go to work at all. so we have tuesday and wednesday off. that leaves us sunday and monday and then thursday for regular work days. Friday is only a half day for shopping and the groceries don't manage to get stock. so don't expect perishables this week.

it's one of those weeks where you have to cram everything into a few working hours. We started with exercise class, went for an x-ray, to the bank, the stationers for supplies, and now home for a little physiotherapy and then a mani-pedi. Since I haven't seen my toes for 6 weeks i'm looking forward to having some color down there.

First day of Autumn. getting ready for yom kippur by buying new clothes in the morning. but in the afternoon the bacterial culture came back and i have one of those hospital bacterias we don't like. i'm waiting impatiently for instructions but i fear I've got hard work ahead. nobody works on yom kippur and only on thursday do i get to see the surgeon. keeping my fingers crossed that my jovial parisian doctor will send me an antibiotic i'm not allergic to that works.

Just before Yom Kippur begins I want to post a poem by my brother, Joe Rosenstein. His authorial qualifications include, the Siddur Et Ratzon" and the "Machzor Et Ratzon"

Kapores Updated

I twirl my laptop around my head,
Chanting the ancient rhymes,
All my sins are recorded there,
No need to upload my crimes.

All of my deeds are written there,
God, go ahead and take a look,
My good deeds are there, outweighing the bad,
So please inscribe me in Your book.

What, You say, there is no more book,
The process has been upgraded,
Well, then, please mark me down as Excel,
I deserve to be positively rated.

As for my laptop, I'll send it away,
To a place far from view,
And with it will go all my sins,
So that I can start anew.

Whatever I do on Yom Kippur is connected somehow to Yom Kippur, talking and listening to family, seeing what old friends have been doing with their lives, trying to get feuding friends to begin a dialogue, trying to understand what went wrong with my colleagues that might be approached differently and repaired. Yom Kippur is supposed to be about my sins against the divine, but i find that I am driven to mend the human. To Karen Alkalay-Gut Diary
