I was about to sit down and write today, but all of a sudden there was a rousing clap of thunder and I shut off the computer. Outside the sun was shining brightly, and it seemed impossible. I called up a friend who lives nearby to see if the weather was the same there, and asked him "What's going on?" And he answered immediately, "Oh well, you know, an election year."
I was just about to write about a friend of mine who is going through therapy to get rid of a travelling phobia. She tells me that she was asked if she had any traumas in her life, but she didn't think so. Then she remembered that yes, she'd had a situation: when she was 13, in Tunisia, in June of 1967, her Arab neighbors started gathering on her street shouting "slaughter the Jews." Her mother barred the door and reinforced it with furniture. Then she turned to the children and said, "In the Holocaust, the Jews died without a fight. We won't die that way." Then she gave each child a knife, and told them to use it if they were threatened. Five days later, when the situation calmed down, she was shipped off to Paris. After that story we started remembering traumas, one war after another. And then we realized. How can she NOT have phobias?
After we saw "Oh, God" tonight at the Cameri, I went over to the author, Anat Gov, and said "You broke my heart." More tomorrow.

אתם מוזמנים להגיע, לשאול שאלות ולהתייעץ בכל בעיה.

"Oh, God," by Anat Gov. I don't know how it can be translated to English because of all the word plays which are integral to the philosophy. The plot is simple. A shrink gets a new client who turns out to be God. The whole analysis is based on his behavior in the Bible. It is accurate as far as the Bible is concerned and as far as analysis works. But it is much more than that: It moved EZI to tears.
I think we have to start thinking in terms of baby formula. A few years ago we had a Remedia crisis here, 2 babies died and many more were severely handicapped. Now there was a suspicion that something is wrong with the local Similac, but it isn't proven. I figure if you have to give the baby formula, alternate between all the brands. That way you increase the chances that some of the time the baby will be fed properly. Now this is the way I would like to live, hedging my bets.

I'm really glad the Yigal Amir interview was cancelled tonight. I would have watched it and it would have given me a heart attack. Just the few things I heard on the radio was that he claimed to be influenced by speeches by politicians and rabbis. Maybe this is true and the ideas he had are more central than we thought. If it is true and we need to be educated about it, I'm still against it. I can't even bear the thought of the guy who ruined my hopes getting prime time.

Hillel Schenker sent me this article about the Khalidi smear campaign of Obamahere. It made me more comfortable about having voted for him.
Of course I'm uncomfortable about voting for Obama. What if I'm wrong? It's the same discomfort when I am told by people I respect that Tsipi Livni will ruin Israel. But I have to take the chance.
Just as I was thinking of asking Oren if I could try running some little poetry readings on Sunday nights at Pappa's, this warning came to me.
Don't forget to vote Chai on November 11 in Tel Aviv.

Somebody's got to build Ichilov a new Hemotology clinic. It was so full today the halls were crowded with waiting patients. We got there before 9 and by the time we got home, almost five hours later, i had to forgo lunch and take a nap before I could go on. And I'm not even a patient!
