no news. this is the kind of evening when you get into bed and listen to the wonderful rain.

And to wake with the sun shining. What a great thought. So what if the Gilad Shalit deal continues to be flubbed? So what if Labor is being sold out by a meglomaniac? So what if we talk and talk about ethics but don't always know how to put them into practice? The sun is shining and the ground is wet. Two pigeons are looking at me from my window in frustration because i've planted cactuses on the sill so they can't nest and give me lice. Shusha is beginning to improve as a result of Moshe Ben Ari's medications, even though she won't even consider stairs. And although I have another crazy day ahead of me, I'm not totally convinced that everything is impossible.

Yesterday I was ashamed of the Israeli flag. I saw it carried through Uhm El Fahem and saw it used as a threat to the residents, and the sight maddened me. When I was in Yiddish school, immersed in socialism, that flag was a sign of the triumph of justice and freedom, just like the American flag, hanging by its side. To see it degraded as a symbol of superiority was physically painful.

And then the Labor party decision to join the government. Oy. My parents must be spinning in their graves.

At 11:30 tomorrow morning (Israel time) I will join in with many many people here to say a "misheberach" prayer for Gilad Shalit. Who knows? It can't hurt.

Malcah, who used to have Passover with my family, asked me for my mother's recipe for passover bagels. No big deal, I thought. It's simply the recipe for profiteroles with matzo meal. But it turns out not everyone knows it. So here it is:Mrs. Rosenstein's Best Passover bagels Ever --

1 c water
½ c oil
1 ½ c matzo meal
½ c cake meal
1 tbsp sugar
½ tsp salt
5 eggs
Bring oil and water to boil
Add dry ingredients. Stir I eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Let stand 10 min. Drop from tablespoon onto greased cookie sheet. Make hole with watered forefinger in center. Bake at 350 50 minutes. Makes 2 doz.

My goodness what fun tonight was. I'll have to wait to tell you until tomorrow afternoon because it is not only very late but we also lose an hour tonight.

if you are a fan of mine and/or Panic and you weren't there last night, you will probably never be able to make it up. There was an interaction between poetry and music that can not be reproduced. And there was no film.

These are just a few pictures of an exciting evening.
