If it weren't for the fact that my son-in-law is running in the marathon tomorrow, I'd be cursing the municipality of Tel Aviv. To close down an entire city because of a sport! schools, workplaces, roads closed. What a crazy place! Now if they had closed down the city for a poetry festival, I'd understand, but Tel Aviv is one of the few places in the country where there IS no poetry festival.

But Tel Aviv is determined to make the city a center for fun. After all, it can't be a center for Zionism, since it's a philistine city, so how can we get some of the tourists that the holy places attract?

On the other hand, maybe it's better to be in Tel Aviv where the city stops for a race, than Jerusalem where the city is threatened by a complete stand-still because of the extreme religious who object to the new draft laws.

Here's the site for the marathon.

I had to be in Herzlia this morning and then back home for an appointment. I made it to Herzlia but coming back I couldn't find a way that wasn't blocked, either by police barriers or by cars bashing into each other trying to get out of the highway at the blocked exits. 40,000 people were running and it must have been very exciting, but me, I was frustrated. If only I had stayed home and written

Or, as someone has pointed out to me, participated. Facebook is full of selfies of smiling people at the finish line. It makes me feel ashamed of not being a runner. Well, not enough to start running. I can make about 100 meters.

While all my American friends have been complaining about the cold, justifiably, all my local friends - from all over the country - have been flu-ridden. For some it just keeps coming back, despite the vaccine, despite their care to avoid sick people, despite their health regimens. It kind of comforts me that I'm not alone, but I'm worn out with running around for those bedridden when I too seem to favor my pillow and blankee.

on another subject it is now time for me to begin to look for some vacation spot for all the family. from end of june to mid july. any ideas are very very welcome.

Shit rises. I'm not talking about the big demonstration in Jerusalem right now, but my very own bathroom. Suddenly the drain in the building was blocked and our bathroom was filled with genuine toilet water, with all the "morning toast" implications. Surprisingly a guest happened to open the door of the bathroom and discovered the flood before it reached the bedrooms, and we started bailing. now it's all quiet and time to open the news and see the demonstration in Jerusalem.
