Tel Aviv Diary -August 1-5,2015 - Karen Alkalay-Gut

August 1, 2015

With all the projected problems of transportation in Tel Aviv, I've got the biggest transportation problem. A double hip replacement. Just got examined - looks bad. can't wait.

the terrible tragedies of the past days - the burning of children, the stabbing of gays in the parade - all this has passed by me enveloped in my personal kvetches... although how anyone can ignore such tragedies is beyond me.

Listening to our prime minister I am not surprised the violence is escalating in our society. We have a great president but the real authority is Bibi.

Anyone have any doubts about public health care? I was in the hospital at 7:30 this morning and by 8:30 i had a bunch of references for tests and xrays to do in the neighborhood clinic and medications to prepare myself and a 'pre-op' date for the 13th with an op on the 18. by the 19th I'll be home if all goes well. All this reliance on me is a little careless on their part, but more much convenient than weeks in the hospital.

Sorry, I erred. it's a five+ days in the hospital.

A Fish stinks from the head down - this saying keeps coming up in conversations. We know the Jewish extremists have been encouraged by the attitudes (passive and vocal) of politicians. And fire breeds fire.

Of course I'm in a bad mood. I spent the morning doing tests and somehow leaving important papers in the wrong hands. Got the hours wrong on the x-ray clinic and have to totter my way back in the afternoon.

this time Ezi took me and we found out there was a paper missing. the paper didn't say anthing more than the one we had with us but Ezi went home and brought it amd it said the same thing but the technicians were satisfied. now it is time to chase after the elusive but all powerful permission to perform this procedure.

tomorrow we go back to the clinic for the examination of the myriad of doctors of the papers. if all is well we may begin to pay attention to the rest of the medical things that have to be done before the operation - get my teeth clean, nails done, etc....

Suddenly it appeared on my computer - the health clinic agreement for the hip operation. simple, quick, and sure. after all that running around yesterday. I was all ready to begin the rounds of clerks again. Not using a cane but a crutch because this is a bad day. And instead I got to stay home and throw out old papers so i can have room to move around in a walker. it was wonderful.
